For most people with healthy vision, conventional sunglasses provide sufficient protection from bright light. However, for people with visual impairment or increased sensitivity to light, this is often not enough. With aging and as a result of various eye conditions, the eyes become more sensitive to short-wavelength, high-energy blue and violet light, which scatters inside the eye and causes glare, discomfort, and reduced visual contrast.
Kanten filters are specialized therapeutic filters that selectively block harmful parts of the light spectrum, particularly wavelengths below, for example, 540 nm—protecting the retina, reducing glare, and improving contrast and clarity.

Unlike conventional sunglasses, which uniformly reduce light across the entire spectrum, Kanten filters work selectively: they block blue and violet light that causes the greatest visual discomfort for impaired or light-sensitive eyes. They absorb high-energy light that causes visual stress, reduce eye fatigue, and improve contrast perception— particularly in challenging lighting conditions, such as bright daylight.
Using Kanten filters can significantly improve visual quality and make it easier to function in conditions that would otherwise be strenuous or uncomfortable for the eyes.Kanten filters provide precise, medically justified protection against the parts of the light spectrum that cause the most discomfort—blue and violet light. They reduce glare, protect the retina, and improve visual contrast, making them ideal for anyone who requires additional visual support in everyday life. Unlike ordinary sunglasses, Kanten filters provide selective protection where it is needed most—without compromising visual clarity.
